October 2016 Outing

On Wednesday 19th October, the Gardening Group a merry band of eight visited the National Trust Winkworth Arboretum near Godalming. Although not very far from home not one of our group had visited before. The weather was mild and the trees, maples, oaks, rowans etc were beginning to turn the beautiful hues of Autumn.

As we walked down towards the lake the sun broke through, then the steep climb back when we found several sweet chestnut trees and there we became hunter gatherers foraging for the sweet chestnuts, filling pockets, handbags and plastic bags, the chestnuts were literally falling on our heads. Eventually heading back to the tea shop, we all agreed another very pleasant time was had by all.
